Mr Jobn Roberts, President of tho Exhibition, was entertained, at a Jubilee banquet this evening. It

was attended by about 200, Mr J. M. Ritchie, President of the Chamber of Commerce, presided, and proposed the toast of the evening, the health of Mr Roberts, concluding by asking him to accept three fine paintings bj English artists, the funds to buy which had been spontaneously contributed by the public. Mr Roberts made a suitable response. The toast of Mr Twopenny,' Executive Commissioner, .was proposed by Mr LeeI Smith,

Water-courses tod RiversG'hmstciiuiscii, April 25, The Comity Council Conference was continued to-day, and the Committee appointed to consider water courses and river conservation reported that it was desirable in its opinion that a separate Act be obtained relating to water races, and that power bo given to (the local bodies to levy special rates to keep the rivors clean. A resolution of the previous day with reference to the boundary road between counties was recinded.
