The ordinary fortnightly meeting of tho. Masterton Bofough Council was kid in the Institute Chambers last evening. Present—Hia Worship the Mayor (Or Heron), and Ore 'Mason; Gapper, M'Ewenj'Dixon and Fittbii. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed 1 /,; : • ■ ,'"r COKBESPONDENCE. Correspondence outwards was read and adopted, and inward correspondence was read as follows i From Secretary of, Jubilee; Committee, presenting the'banners-used in the recent oolebratiori :to- the Maaterton Institute as a free gift, on condition that; the ,same be mounted' and hung on the walls of the Institute. His Worship the Mayor thought the banners should have been'" presented to the Museum instead of to the Institute. .'■'■'. - Or Dixon moved that the banners bo accepted with thank : " \ : ' :! Or M'Eweri seconded.:., i:,; Or Gapper asked' if the conditions' re mounting could, be carried,out. Cr Dixon asked whether, if tho Council did not get property owners to the neighborhood or\Queen-Btreet t? pay jtyle oos\ they would complete the asphalting of the same at their own expense. The, .Mayor remarked that he had been thinking of the matter himself, and he considered, the whole of the main street should be .asphalted.. :Gr Gapper?was also of opimonjtbatthey: shbuld pot make'a break fethe; as^halti'rig v of Queen Btr'eet.. Cr Mason: Has the Council power to compel property owners to pay for the asphalting in W'frontof their premises?' l " '"■*■"■' !; !-■<•■ The Mayor replied that thoy would bring such .pressure to bear on property owners as would ensure the work being carried out successfully. .. The meeting then adjourned; .after which' Cr" Gapper stated tbaVbe' had intended moving that tho matter of dealing with the banners presented by the Jubilee'Committce be relegated to tho Library Committee, The Mayor assured Cr Gapper that such a course ffould be adopted and a Yeport brought 'up-, for next; Reeling.
