The Railway Employees Insurance Bill-
Wellington, Saturday. The Railway Commissioners havo issued a circular asking their employees to record a vote upon the Government Railway Employees Insurance Bill. As now submitted it contains a clause enabling anyone, by giving three months'"notice, to claim exemption from its provisions. If the reply is favorable the Commissioners will recommend Government to proceed with the Bill next session,
MASONIC. ' Dunedin, January 24. At a meeting of Provincial and District Grand Masters (Freemasons) hold to-day, the following attended: Messrs Graham (Auckland, in the chair), Pearce (Auckland), Thomson (Canterbury), Bevan (Westland), Gore (Otago), and Graham (Southland). The following resolution was passed:—That this conference nf Provincial and District Grand Masters commend the action of the Masonio Union in postponing the proceedings, and consider that in the best interests of Freemasonry, and with the view of preserving harmony in the craft it is not desirable to form a Grand Lodge of-New Zealand at present, so that time may be allowed for a be'ter understanding between the various lodges of the several constitutions, and a greater unanimity arrived at upon such a vital question to Freemasonry in New Zealand, . Disgraceful AffairTiMAiro, Jaunaay 24. The Hospital Board to-day had a long discussion on a case of puerperal septicemia which had been refused admission to tho Hospital, After hearing the opinions of the surgeon and a medical member, and considering the reports of other practitioners off the great danger of admitting such cases, the action taken was approved, and orders given that no suoh cases should be received.. A member gave notice to move for consideration of tho question whether provision cannot be made for treatment of these cases under isolation for protection of the general public, There havo been several fatal cases' of this nature within the past twelve months. The case in question was brought in from Temuka, and all the doctors here refused to attend it, Fortunately oue was obtained specially from Dunedin, and the patient is being treated in a boarding-house at a cost of £lO per week,
Wool Export Gisborne, January 24. The barque Peru, thesecond wool ship of the season, has sailed with a cargo valued at £44,000. Tho estimated shipment of wool direct from Gisborne this season is 8500 bales, as against 6000 last season. Most of the wool from stations about the coast is going to Napier,
CRICKET. Auckland, January 24, A cable messago has been received from Sydney stating that the New South Wales team of cricketers loft for Auckland by tho Arawata yesterday afternoon. They should reach Auckland on Tuesday.
