Bankruptcy. .Auckland,; January 8. A meeting of .the creditors of H. P. Bluett, bankrupt, was held to-day, when it was resolved that the debtor should be publicly examined before tho. Supreme Court, aTid that legal opinion be obtained as to the validity or otherwise of tho assignment of certain property by Bluett to trustees. The meeting was a somewhat animated one. Du,\mv, January 8. The chess tournament was continued tonight, Dr Stenhoiise moeting Mr Hookham. The latter adopted the Buy Lopoz attack at the 28th move, and the doctor was ablo to take his opponent's knight. Hookham started his move at 11 o'clock, his time being 2 hours, and that of the. doctor 1 hour 10 minutes. THE PRIMACY.

At the annual meeting of the Now Zealand Insurance Company to-day, Mr - Wood moved an amendment to the motion for the adoption of tiro report and balance-sheet, " That tho dividend for the year be 16 per cent instead oi 12J- per cent." He said that in tho Company's position this extra sum could easily be afforded. Several speakers, however, urged the wisdom of adding to theresorve fund.
