In reference to the formation and motalling of Georgo great, Mr J Whitaker, attorney for Mr Levin, wrote, offering to subscribe thesuiii of JSIS towards tho work. ■ The Mayor moved that a-' copy of the letter be sjnt to Mr Berriman, one of the residents thereon, who bud applied to have the work done, and to suggesuhat the residents should raise tho balance of the cost.amongst themselves,

That a manual, reel and hose be sem to Kuripuni, if proper shelter is provided, and that a branch of the Municipal Brignde be formed there, That the tiros of tho reel be out nnd shut. That thosnnY of £6 ss,'' one quarter's wages to the engine keeper, bo passed for payment,- s ■ Or Fittoh moved the adoption of the.report, and stated Mr D. Donald was willing to grant the; Council a ton years lease of the site in question at a.peppercorn rent, for tho purpose of an engine ehed. The Gas Committee's report, which dealt with the question of retorts was read and adopted.
Cr Gapper in reference to tho erection of an aeplialteshed, reported that the work would hare to b<\ r»mlwd for, as the cost exceeded the power of the Works Committee to undertake by private contract, Tho Mayor thought the building of the shed should be hold over, in the face of the financial position of the Council, The question was deferred until further notice, Cr Dixon asked whether the Cpuuoil intended to go on with the work; of asphalting the footpath iu front of the Post and Telegraph Ounces. The Mayor stated the work would ho commenced at an early date. Cr Dixon moved that the Town Clerk interview the property owners ou the block bounded by Hall Street, Queen: Street, Perry Street,-and Chapel Street, with a view to having the footpaths asphalted. The motion was carried, ' The Mayor drew attention to' the state, of the culvert at"Kurupuui Creek.
