Attempt to Wreck a Train.
• v; Ikvercargul, January 0. • :pn: 7 ,Saturday morning; when the Clinton train, due tit Invercargill at 10.6S a.ra reaohed. tlio Mill-road station, just as the engine wan about to pull up before going on to tlio siding, it passed over a large fangbolt.Meanwhile tin guard had gone up to move the points to lot tho'lram ipto the siding, when ho found two iron bolts known as '-dogs," and several stones of a- considerable-size placed on the rails at both ends of the siding, Detective Maddern went out by the 4.15 p,in train,, and when going to examine the place where tlie obstructions were- -.found, in ,tlie morning discovered three large stOneß planted in a check rail,two itou dogs, and a piece of an iron bolt and a large stone on the main line.. After removing these, and when the train had gone , past,.' the detective kept watch until 9 p.m., but nothing occured, > He again went bystlia 6,40" a.m. train to-day, and had not waited long" before he noticed a boy, named Brown, living near by, placing stones on the line. The boy' was promptly secured. An investigation as 'to whother he had an accomplice will be made.
