At the commercial travellers dinner laat night, Mr Scott, representing I South Australia, referred to the great advantages that would accrue to New Zealand by holding an exhibition of. its natural products in London. The Hon Mr Fergus slated the, Ministry were favorably inclined to thu proposal, and would consider the quostion of necessary funds at an early meeting of the Cabinet,
The Hon Mr Fergus in reply to the complaint from Mr Scott about the duty of 5s por gallon on wines from the South Australian colony, said the Government and Parliament of New Zealand were in favor of entering into a reciprocal troaty for tho admission of South Australian produce free if that Colony grunted a similar concession tO'US.

Lost in tlie Ranges.

A boy seven years of age, named Kellow, was lost in the ranges near Ngaruawahia on Christmas Day, aud has not since been found,
Poisonous Honey

News has been received from the Chief Mitu to Tai, on the Island of Rawhita, of the poisoning of a nnmber b't Natives from eating lioney. Two men and two women are dead, and several otheis are in a dangerous condition. Mita's wife and family are amongst those suffering from the effects, Mils is at present attending a wedding at Otnki. His father, Ihaha Hukueuc,it will be remembered, died at Parnoll fiom tinned meat poisoning some months ago,
The Recent Collision.
LvmLTON, December 29,
A magisterial inquiry into the circumstances surroanding the collision between the steamers Eotorua and Orowaiti on tho 7th December, between Wellington and Lyttelton, was held at Lyttelton on Saturday before the magistrate and two uauti!oal assessors. Captain Nevillo, of ; the Rotorua, was charged with driving his vessel too fast in a fog, anil with not keeping the fog hovn constantly sounded, and Captain McDonald, of the Orowaiti, was oharged witli not keeping his fog horn sounded, A considerable amount of evidence was taken, from which it appeared that the Eotorua was travelling at the rate of 11 knots per hour just prior to the collision, but her -whistle was being kept sounded every two or three minutes from the time the first whistle was heard until the vessels were into each other. The oicers and engineers of the Orowaiti stated that their vessel had been stopped five or ten minutos before the collision, on account of tie thick fog. The whistle was kept sounding evory two minutes from the time they lelt Lytteltouj Heads until the vessels collided, The judgment w'll bo give non Tuesday. .
Wool Sales.

Tho first wool sale of the season was held on the 28th, Competition was not so keen as was expected, although there was a fair attendance of. buyers, About 400 bales were submitted, of which fully one-third was passed in. The bidding was very, irregular, and the recent rise was' not upheld, Prices ranged as follows:—Menno B|d to lOd; crossbredß, BJd to lOJd; halfbreds 10Jd to Usd; and pieces up to 7td; scoured, hrst combing, up to Ist Od.
