MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Installation of Mayor.
Tub statutory meeting of the Couuoil was heldat noon to-day (Wednesday), Present, Crs Perry, E. Chamberlain, Mason, Ga'pper, T, Chamberlain, Heron, and Dixon.
Cr Perry was voted to the chair, and tho minutes of the last mooting wore read anil confirmed. The Mayor elect, Cr G. Heron, having mado ami signed the usual form of declaration, took his seat as Mayor. ORDINARY MEETING. The Kailway department wrote stating they could not see their way to using gas for lighting at the Masterton railway station.
The overseer reported a leakage in the floodgates in Chapel street. He alio asked authority to' obtain material and mix asphalt ivhen wjather permits.
Cr Gapper pointed out that the Gas Committee Imd neglected their work iu not (jetting tlio asphalt prepared and having a shed built as instructed, He moved that tbo Works Committee ho instructed to undertake tbo work.
Cr Mason seconded the motion. He considered llie Works Committee tlio proper body to carry, out the work He thought it time the Council asphalted the whole of the footpaths iu the centre of Queen Street for the benefit of prcdestrians. The motion was carried. The reconstruction of committees was left over until nest meeting. The fc'manca (Jommitleowas authorised to make the usual monthly payments on Monday 23rd inst, and report to tbo next Council meeting This concluded the business and the Council adjourned till January 7th.
