Masterton Road Board.

Tho ordinary monthly meeting of tho Board was held on Saturday. Present—Messrs W. H. Beotham (chairman), Dngg. Stuckesy and Brown, The minutes of tho previous meet* were read and confirmed. COUHKSrOHDENCE, From Survey Office stating that Government would grant £l7O for fencing road through section jNo. !), Kopuaraugi. From Colonial Sccictary re gazetting of special order. From Treasurer advising payment of £SO for the Wangaehu branch road, and LIOO for Upper Plain Manaiu road. From same advising payment of-office rent. Tlireo letters from Chief Surveyor in reference to the road through tho Okuruputi block, g< A petition from six settlers was % read asking tie Board to borrow the sum of L6OO under the Government Loana to Local Bodies Act, for tho purposo of metalling portions of the road between Wangaehu bridge and the junction of the Upper Taueru road. Mr Mawley attended ill support of the petition. The following resolutions were passed. " That the Minister of Lauds be informed that tho Board nccopts his offer of £l7O for tbe Acroction of fonco through section iNo T&, Kopuaranga, belonging to Mr Stuckey. That n deed conveying tho land to the Board be immediately propared by thoßoard'ssolicitor, and that Mr Stuckey bo paid £2OO for tho fencing, tho balanco of £i!o to bo raised by loan, repayable by settlers interested. That tho Overseer peg off the line of road that the fencing may he immediately commenced, That tenders be called for the formation and metalling of a piece of road in the Upper Plain, to close at 2 p.m on Saturday, 21st current. That tho Board take the necessary steps to procure the loan applied for by Mr Mawloy and others. That the Chief Surveyor be informed that tbe Board has pegged oft a road through Mr AVarM's property at Te Whiti, and ask him to instruct Mr SmMi to legalise the samo beforo the Crown Grants mature. That Ik. Clerk inform Mr W. lorus titat tho Board intend to legalise the road through his property, and tthat Mr Wardell be likewise in--•ikmed that tho Board intend to legalise tho road through land leased by him, and at the same timo ascertain oinvhat terms he will allow them to legalise tho road passing through his freehold property. That the Survey Department be informed that in the matter of road to sections Nos. 15 and 10, Block X, Kopuaranga, Messrs Stuckey and Cameron do not see their way to abandon they road through Mr Cade's section, as by doing so there would be no road to thoso sections, but Mr Cade agrees to forego any compensation for the above road, provided tbe Government ' connects his property with the road laid off from 'l'o Ore Ore to Matapihi. That the accounts enterod in tho pay-sheet be paid, and that tho monthly accounts of the several wards be adopted. Tbe overseer's report was read and adopted, as follows: - Sir—l have to report for tho in formation of tho Hoard as fallows . \Voolfs Contract.—lnconsequence the scarcity #t labor tho contractor has made slow progress with the work, but expects to finish in about a fortnight, Konoili's Contract.—This contract will be. finished in a few days. He has done the work to my entire satisfaction. Bluff Boad.— I would advise that a man should be put on this line of road for tbe purposo of raking in the ruts and breaking 'large stono and do whatever work ho finds may be necessary ou tbe samo. MikimikiKoad—Tho eontraotlot to J. Duckott has not yet been completed as I had to employ him to do other work which I found to bo more necessary. Manaia Koad. -The contract let to J. Cummings at Upper Manaia is progressing satisfactorily aud will be finished within contract time. Wangaehu Koad.—l have again examined the properties abutting on this lino of road and found that no v metal suitable can be got for the '®hvork required on tho same. McKay's fioad.-Tho road loading . to Messrs R. McKay's homestead js now in a very tad condition in coneequeuce of tho heavy loads of flax oonvoyed along it, and I would adviso that a coat of metal should be laid on it, Estimated cost £2O.
