Beetham and Ay ß °n brought up fourteen beautiful native graylings thoy caught in the Waiohine river and liberated them in the Mastorton fish ponds yesterday, Mr Charles Pharazyn, of Longwood, Featherston, has forwarded a chequo ol one guinea to MrT. U, Wakelin,secrotary of tho Morrison's Hill picnic committee Lower Valley, to assist in engaging a photographer, Mr T. E. Price, to take views of the Wairarapa from ono of the high hills in that locality. The Masterton Philharmonic Society meet for practice to-night. Members aro requested to rail up punctually as the date for tho proposed concert has been fixed for the 26th inst. At the conclusion of tho Borough Council meeting last night the Mayor, Mr Itenall, asked Or Heron whether he intended to allow himself to bo nominated for tho Mayoralty, on Thursday next as he had scon it mentioned in the papers. Cr Horon said he had consented at the request of his brother councillors to come lorward as a candidate forthe ollicc. The Mayor "Then 1 won't be nominated !" Cr Heron—"l was going to ask you to nominate me." The Mayor-"l won't go so far as that," Cr Porry said Mr Itenall stated at a previous meeting that if any old councillor camo forward ho would support him, Mr lienall contradicted tins statement, and roplied that what he did say was tlwt he would not stand against .in old councillor. He would tako that stand on the present occasion, and thus leave himself upon to tatco any course ho might choose to follow, He had asked two or three gentlemen whoso nomination ho thuuyht would be favorably rorecoived by tho Council, but they had declined the honor.

The Wairarapaflorth County Council have given the Borouch Council ot Masterton notice that unless thoy pay up within fourteen days, an old outstanding account duo to tho former body for the loan of their engineer to report upon tho Waipoua overflow and eas tank leakage, thoy will take summary proceedings to recover the same, which amounts to £U odd.
