Wkllinoioh, Saturday. At a meeting of tho Bootmakers Union last night it was unanimously decided to send L2O to the tailors now on strike in Canterbury, and give further assistance if required. They also passed a resolution that they intended to refrain from buying any article manufactured at the Kaiapoi Woollen Factory until the directors of tho factory conceded to the demand of the Tailors Hnion,
Christchuroh Show. Ohrisichubch, November 8. The receipts, at the show to-day show that the attendance was many thousands in excess of former shows. It is estimated that 25,000 persons were 011 the ground between 3 and 4 p.m. The Governor was present, and -took a lively interest in the proceedings. At the luncheon he expressed himself gratified at the signs of prosperity in this Colony. Sudden Death. Wellington, Saturday. A man named Peter Key, forsomo time barman at the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel, died suddenly early this morning. He was apparently in bis usual health last night. It is believed he suffered from heart disease, Band Contest.

A Lively Scene. Ihveroargiu, November 8, After a hearing extending over four dayn the charge of larceny against Holm and wifo was for the second time dismissed by the Resident 'Magistrate. Tho household goods, groceries, &c, which the defendants were accused of stealing from Wallis Houso, at Marton Plains, wero all in Court, and after the decision a most extraordinary scene occurred. The accused's solicitor instructed them to remove their property, while the police and the prosecutor strove to retain it. Tho accused and their friends carried the stuff in triumph to a cab in waiting, and after the affair was over the Court room looked like a deserted grocer's shop, the floor and table being strewn with burst packets of maizene, mustard, blue, Ac. Tho quantity ofbed3ing and linen claimed by the prosecutor as his was very large. Wallis will probably apply to bo bound to lay an. indictment against Holm and wife before the grand jury. They on the other hand, are said to be taking an action for heavy damages, for malicious prosecution,
