| Inspecting Defences. Wellington, Tuesday. Mnjor-General Edwards left in the Government launch Ellen Ballanco, at 10.80 this morning to inspect the forts, He was accompanied by the Hons. Captain Russell and Messrs Fergus and Richardson, Colonel Humphrey, Lieut-Col. Hume, LioutCol. Butts, and Captains falconer and Messenger, He inspects tho barracks in the afternoon, and the volunteers in the evening.
Breech of Pawnbrokers Act. Wellington, Tuosday. In the R.M. Court to-day, Maurice Zinian, pawnbroker, was charged under section 85 of the Pawnbrokers' Act, with accepting goods in pawn from a child under 11 years of age, and fined £2 and costs. It is believed to be the first case of the kind in the Colony,
Wellington Divorce Court. Wullington, Tuesday. In the Divorce Court this morning a decree was made absolute in Bontsch v Bontsch, Malcolm and Malcolm and Brodie v. Brodie. The caso Delautour v. Dolautour and Lees is still proceeding. The husband, who is a doctor at Tnpanui, petitions for a divorce on the ground of his wife's adultery, Suicide Pauikrstox North, Tuesday. A single womaiu mimed Allen committed suicide by drowning herself in the Manawatu River at Foxton yesterday,
