The secretary was instructed to request a reply by Tuesday next at noon. The Union express themselves anxious to avoid a strike, which would throw many men and women out of work. At the inquest on the child Robertson, run over by a Chinaman's dray on Thursday, tho evidence showed that the driver had not seen the child, and when called upon to stop he thought they wero teasing him as usual, hence he drove on. A verdict was returned of accidental death, with a rider added to the effect that the Chinaman did wrong in not stopping when called upon, The coroner, Mr Bccthain, told him he acted like a coward, and was a bad man, and everybody was ashamed of him.
