Supposed Suicide at Miki liki. At 12 o'clock on Sunday night a sou of Mr Brown Hunt, farmer, Opaki, called at the Police Station, Masterton, and informed Sergeant Price that his stepmother, Mrs Annie Hunt, had taken poison, that she was still alive when ho left, and he was oil his way to summon a medical practitioner. Constable O'Connor immediately rode out and arrived at the Miki Miki about the same time as Drs Hosking and Milne, who had been summoned also. After examin-: ing tho body the doctors pronounced] Mrs Hunt had been dead about four hours. Mr Hunt said his wife retired to her bedroom at about half-past seven o'clock with her eight years old daughter. At about 9.30 Mr Emit who occupied a separate sleeping apartment, was on his way to bed, when he noticed a light in his wife's room, Heknocked at the door and after some little delay was admitted. He found his wife up and dressed, and walking about the room in a dazed sort of way. The girl was in the act of dressing herself and left the room, He asked his wife why she was not in bed and what was the matter, she gave no direct reply. Ho then noticed on the dressing table a bottle and asked her if she had been taking any of its contents, She denied having done so, The girl when asked said she had not seen her mother taking anything from the bottle. Mr Hunt again questioned his wife and she admitted that she had taken a dose of strychnine from the bottle. Mr Hunt put his finger into her mouth and then into his own and found it left a bitter taste, He called up the boys and sent ono off for tho doctor. In the meantime he made an emetic of salt and water and forced it into her mouth but without producing any beneficial eftect, She died within half an hour of his entering tho room. An inquest will be held this afternoon before Col. Roberts, Coroner,
