We can compliment Mr Meredith on liis ingenuity in endeavouring to show that ajj the late rabbit meeting only one individual considered the proceedings " all bosh," Our own honest impression is that at least a hundred of those who were present formed a like impression. Mr Meredith is also absolutely mistaken in supposing that our article of September 2nd, to which he lias alluded on more than coo occasion, was in the remotest degree an official manifesto. We read Mr Meredith's letter with interest, but fear he attaches too much, importance to what he deraandt from the Rabbit jjeparjment and too little io what the Rabbit J&partaient j demands jrmi him. Tlie department! uas the law and legislature at its back, and anyone who lias read the evidence taken before a joint ,commiiee of both Houses during the late session will recognise bow - futile it is for .seMlflj's \)j tljo position of Air, Meredith to "jack against tlje pricks,' 1

The selection of Captain Bussed as a Minister of the Crown is a good one! Wo may now possibly get, though lute in the day, a reformed and improved Ministry, but Sir Hurry will find that it is easier to majje mistakes than to correct them,

A subscriber suggests the formation of an Anglers Investment and Outlit Supply Association, tho admission fee to which shall bo £l, and tho monthly subscription £l, the Association to 6upplyat the beginning of tlio soaaon a compieto outfit of angling appliances to each monitor. It, is estimated that in this manner, say tho Association consisted of twenty members and the requisites for oach angler cost £6, arrangements could be made with some reputable, firm to supply all that was needed upon monthly payments, and thus the exponse to individual monibora would be Bcarcoly felt. The articles supplied to members would bo the property of tlio Association until the whole liability was cleared off, when each member would be entitled to his own and no further payments would bo needed. If terms could not bo arranged for the purchase of rods, &c, eaoh months subscriptions could be laid out in buying for cash what was wanted, and lots to bo drawn for their possession.
It is now related that the real nature of tho long-continued illness of tho King of the Netherlands is within? more or less than insanity. If tho sufferer really be out of his mind—and it is alleged that tho difficulty is of very long standing—at all events lie is to bo congratulated on having a very lovol head for business. For many yoars ho has directed his oncrpies toward tho oouuoni-. ical management of his finances, and ho has been so sucessful in this that ho lim largr lauded properties in Java, Aniorica, and France. Ho has also beon a successful speculator on the Bourse, and will leave his consort a fortune of many millions. Certainly his ''insanity" seems to have taken a queer direction,
Some well-written and accurate letters (except in the matter of a hw if the at range names of localities) are appearin? in the Irish Times on " ThcPrcseiit in New Zealand." These aro from tho pen of Mr Ariiott, tho son of tho proprietor. In a letter dated Dunedin he says: -" TJioyonngpcoploareextrcmely hoalthy looking, dress neatly, imd go in strong for tennis and tea.
