The ordinary monthly meeting of tho Council was held on Monday. Present—The Mayor and Crs. A, Booth, T, Moore, W, Viokerstaff, J. Bayliss, G. W. Doller and A. McKenzie. Tho Clerk reported that the three retiring councillors were re-elected without opposition. They signed the usual declaration and took their seats. Tho minutes of the provious meeting were read and confirmed. Tho Treasurer reported a credit balance of Ll6 19s. Also that a writ (or the sum of L 24 had been served demanding that amount as the half year's subsidy to the Charitable Aid Board. Moved by Cr Bayliss that the amount be paid. Carried. Correspondence from the Klectric Light Company of Wellington was re. ceived,, but was too voluminous to read | Ordered to be laid on the tabic Mr Vail's circular on the management of railways was read and ordered to be laid on the table. From Mr D. Deer re removing fences and all obstructions off Portland road, and also to have a culvert put in. Cr VickerstulT slated 'hat the applicant had done some considerable work at his own expense, and that he was entitled to some consideration. Resolved that Mr R, Dixon have notico to remove the obstructions complained of within three months from date, and also that tbe roadman be instructed to put in a culvert as required. That Mr James Bassett have notice to clcer the gorse off Portland Road. Tho Committee appointed nt the last meeting to arrange with tho poundkeeper re the reset ve, recommended that ho bo allowed the use of it for one year, at a rental of L 3, and to keep tho fences in repair and also to protect the trees, and not to interfere with people in using tho reserve for public games. The roadman's report was read ami approved. Mr Afloski waited on tho Council in reference to having a bridge widened, Tho Couuoil offered to have it done provided ho fourid tho timber, Tho ranger asked who was to be responsible for damage done by cattle when driving them to the pound. Tho Council informed him that they could not assist him in the matter. Some accounts wore passed- for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
