Protection.
Dumdin, Soptembcr 25,
The United Protection League Committee tonight decided that it was not necessary at present to fix a date for a conference on colonial protection, Tho protectionists of Victoria are to be communicated with, so that any of them visiting Duuedin at the date of the meeting could attend the conference. It was decided to ascertain if the protectionist delegates would be roceived at the Commercial Congress to bo bold in Punedin. Sympathy was expressed with tho question of having one common tariff applicable to all colonies, based on the principle of intercolonialfreetrade and ex-colonial protection.

The Refrigerating Company hare made satisfactory arrangements with Messrs Kelson Bros, and at once will take ste[)3 to enlarge ihcir premises and plant to a freezing capacity of 1,000 sheep per day, whioh should be equal to the requirements of the district for mauy vears,
