Mr Dunn, who is opposing Mr Hislop for the Outnaru seat, - addressed a large meeting of electors to-night. The candidate's remarks wore mainly directed against Mr Hislop, At the conclusion of the speech ho was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence.
An Unsuccessful Operation.
Auckland, Sept, 24,
A letter has beon received by the Hospital Board from Mr J. Stows, of Onehunga, stating that without | his consent an operation was performed on liia wife, who was a patient at the hospital, and she died.three days afterward. He asked for an explanation as to the oauso of the operation. The medical staff of the
Hospital have accordingly been asked to report upon the subject,
Libel Action.
New Plymouth, Wednesday. With regard to the libel action Wynott v Oorkliill, the. latter has been advised that in view of all the circumstances attending the publication of the apology, signed by Mr Hooper, which appeared in the Taranaki Herald, lie is technically responsible for its publication, and Mr Samuel, his solicitor, has therefore tbis day paid into Court the sum of forty shillings by way of damage in the action, Fortunate Legatees. Auckland, Sept. 24. It is said that Dr Honeyman and Mr John Hay, two well-known residents of this city, are the chief legatees' of an estate valued at £8,000,000 left by a relative, Mr Berry, who died recently in Syduey.

In the Supreme Court tlio divorce case Dalbedhyll against Mbedhyll for a petition for dissolution of marriage, In pleading there was a denial of marriage, but that has since been withdrawn, Plaintiff alleges that the troubles commenced shortly after marriage, in 18G5, adultery being alleged to have taken placo at Hokitika and Dunedin, together with cruolty. Tho respondent used to frighten her by alloging that there was a committalfor bigamy becanso he had been married before. Having proof of her first husband's death she married respondent in her maiden name, because she was under age when first married. He knew these facts before marriage.

The evidence will be sent to Wellington. The press and public were excluded from the enquiry, Laying a Foundation Stone' Nelson, September 24,' His Excellency tho Governor laid the foundatiou stone of St John's Wesleyan Church this afternoon, the whole ceremony Icing a great success, witnessed by 4,000 people, The Governor and Lady Onslow met with a warm and hearty reception. The Bov, Mr Oliver read an address, and presented His Excellency with a silver irowel, mallet, and level, with a casket. The Governor having declared the stone woll and truly laid, oxpressed gratification at the expressions of loyalty to tho Queen, and on behalf of Lady Onslow and himself, and of the truo hospitality shown them. He alluded to the presence of the Bishop of Nelson, .and said that this freer and happier land—this brighter Briton, the home of liberality in religious matters—otl'ored another example to those at Home, The Bishop of kelson made an admirable speech, saying that each had their views, and adhered to them conscientiously, but they felt there were more points on which they agreed then disagreed. With that view, and remembering adverse influences at work, ho said they followed tho advice of Lord Nelson, who, when two of his commanders were at variance, said, there is the enemy, you must be friends, The others who took a prominent part were the Mayor (Mr J, Sharp), the Rev P, Calder (Presbyterian), Archdeacon Miles, and the Rev J, Crump, Nelson was on f6te on tho occasion,
