Society are becoming quite a local institution, was given to a full house last night in the Temperance Hall. The chair was taken by the Rev W. A pianoforte solo by Miss Pearson was. deservedly applauded, and that ever acceptable old song " Tom Bowling," which was very well rendered by Iffii Aitken, bad to be repeated. Mr J, (f Parker, of uirterton, sang " My dear mother's grave," in a most oxpressivo manner, and was re-called, A selection by the band was followed by a song from that local favorite, Mr Bray, ivho gave " llio Slave Ship," a song which suited his powerful voice to a nicety. In answer to the demand he repealed the : last verse of the song. A tin whistle duet "by Messrs F. and J, G. Parker, was the novelty of the tvoning, and certainly was deserving of tho applause it receivod, The lively Scotch airs introduced, took the house by storm, aid the audience would not be sajUfied, until tho performance was repeated, " Rooked in the cradlo of the deep,'by Mr 11. Rees, was very woll ren dered, and a repetition demandod and given. A comio song " Mrs Brown's luggage," by Mr J, G. Parker, quite took tho audience.
