Monday, The House met at 10.30 a.m. Oa the motion for going into Supply Mr Parata moved an aniendniont to the effect that it is desirable there should bo a reduction of the stump duty ou Native lands from £lO per cent to £5 per cent, Messrs Walker, Oadman, and Dallance supported the auiendmeut. Sir H, Atkinson regretted he could not accept the amendment, and ho was surprised at Mr Ballance supporting it, as the matter wits simply one of revenue. The 10 per cent at present did not cover tlio cost of , clothing natives with a good title, i Something, however, might bo done 1 in the direction of reducing the duty on leases, and he should look into ' that mutter during tho recess. The ! amendment was lost by 28 to 22, and I the House went into Committee of l supply.
