A Narrow Escape.
Gisnonxu, September 18. A north-westerly gale blew here with spme force at 5 o'clock on Tuesday morning. A native named Ruku Aratapu loft Gisborne iu a small keel boat, 12ft long, for the lishing ground in the bay. Tho gale ciuno ou suddenly, awl ho was blown out to sea. All Tuesday night ho was blown away from land amidst considerable sea, and when Wednesday morning broke he found himself out oi sight of land. He hoisted the sail and steered for the direction he thought tha land to be, and in the evening the wind and sea went down, and by constant use of the sculls ho again reached the coast at -1 a.m. yesterday after being two days and nights on the water, and escaping many perils. The man had no food but raw crayfish, and no water. His escape was a marvellous one, for the boat was many times nearly capsized or swamped.
