VOLUNTEER CONCERT.
Tho Theatre %nl was well filled last evening for the concert under the auspices of the Mastertuii Volunlteru, and the a flair pi ovud very enjoyable, Before the programtno commenced Pearson's baud, with their usual liberality, performed a number o£ clioico selections outside tho Hall, which wore enjoytd by music lovers, Tlw programme was opened with an overture by Miss Corbett, and was , played in her usual creditable style, A s gleo by Mesdames Kibblowbite, liedman and Mullor, and Messrs Redman and Bogie followed, and was rendered with considerable pathos. Mr T, Brown, whose songs are always a treat, gave a comic ballad, " Shoreditch handicap," in character, and liadw to submit to an encore, for which J ho returned with " All Gono Wrong." Miss Polling's" Home Sweet Home," was nicely rendered, the song suiting the register of her voice, Mr Bray was warmly received as an old favorite by tbe. audieiici', and '• In Happy moments" was given in his best style, and although he received an encore ho did not respond. A nigger speciality by Mi* Wade, including song and dance, pleased the audience, and they would 'not rest tii| he had repeated the Ijist Terse. A violin 1 duet
by Mr Muller aud his clever littlo pupil, Mastor A, Elkins, wus performed with a considerable amount of skill, tho youthful musician handling tho bow in a very iiiastorly manner, showing grout credit to his instructor. Mr Coleman's rendition of" The Bomney Lm" was a treat, and lio_ had to submit to an encore, for which ho gavo "Tho Thistle, Bose, and Shamrock " in his well known style, Tho duet by Miss Turner aud Mr Bray, "The .Lily or « the Bose," was pleasingly given, their ' rich voices blending very evenly. Master A. and Miss Maggie Elkins, in a sweet littlo duct for violin ami piano, wore next on tho programme, and the way in which tho two small artists played their respective parts fairly captivated the audience, who gavo most hearty applause. A comic trio by Messrs Thompson, Bradbury, and Brown, m which local topics wo mixed up, brought down the house, and in response to an encore ( thoy gavo "By and Bye" with equal succoas, Mrs Muller nudo her debut beforo a Mnsterton uudicnco, and by the sweetness ami expression of her voice loft a most favorable impression, A farco entitled "French Before Breakfast," brought forth some new talont, and wo must congratulate Mr Uant upon tho way he has made players out of raw material. The various characters were as follows:-Mr Sprigging, Mr H. M. Kockell; Victor Dubois, Mr 15. H .Porritt; Majorßattan, Cecil Kiverton; Mrs Spriggins, Mr C. Blackburne; Angelina, Miss wdkTjimor; Mrs Rattan Miss GreatAnna Maria, Mrs O'Connor, Ono and all acted with much spirit, and the audience were kept in a very merry mood from start to finish. Mr BockoH's acting was above tlio ordinary display, and we may expect to seo this gentleman attain a high position in amateur circles, lor lie certainly possesses dramatic talent of no mean order. During tho interval, Mr A. Thompson, in thanking the audience for their attendance, said it i was tho intontion of the Volunteers to hold a series of concerts, and at the next, to bo held in about six weeks' time, the Wellington Guards had kindly promised to assist, The various accompaniments throughout the evening were ably played by Misses Corbott, Turner, Williams, Watson, and Mr Bathboiie.
