THE NEW MIX. A lettor was read from Sir George Grey stating the new Trust Rill had just passed the Lower House, and the Hon B. Pharazyn had consented to take charge of the Bill in the Upper House. One amendment had been made excluding one acre and [thirty seven perches, part of rural section' 29, which had already been taken for railway purposes. Tho Chairman said nothing had been paid by tho Kailway Department for the land which had been taken from thorn, and tho matter would hapo to be looked into, Mr McEwen moved that the thanks of the Trustees bo conveyed to Sir G. Mr McEwen moved that Messrs Renall and Perry visit the remainder of the Trust's property on Section 88 with a view to erecting a dividing fence next to MrMcMullen's property. Carried, DEPUTATION. Ors Gapper and Eton on behalf of the Works Committee of the Borough waited upon tho Trust in reference to the deviation of the stream running through Town acre No 72, the property of tho Trust, Cr Gapper pointed out what was required to be done, and produced .a plan of tho proposed work.
Tho Chairman asked what would be gained by abandoning tho presont culvert, and making another one. Cr Gapper said it would do away with tho present nuisance running nudor the Star Office. Draiiiß wore running into the present ohannol, and the new culvert being covered ovor would do away with presont complaints.
The Chairman said it was a doubtful advantage lor so large an outlay, The aero was lot and the lease had nino years to run,
Cr, Gapper said a great doal of expense had been incurred in endeavouring to keep this part of the creek free from nuisances and nothing but making a now course would alter it. It was dangerous to the health of occupiers of the properties under which the present stream flowed. The Chairman said tho stream might be kept clear and free from nuisances, by simply flushing tho stream, Tho Borough Council know where tho water was and tho expenso would bo trilling. Thousands of gallons of water wero running to wasto. Cr. Gapper said the channel in its present state would not bo benelitted by flushing, Tho stream was polluted after it left Mr Carey's property and run through the town, He hoped tho Trustees would sco their way to help tho Council in making the deviation.
The deputation thanked the trustees and withdrew. The Chairman said the real fault was that the creek was.blocked with gates, If those wero removed there would he no complaint, Ho thought the deviation would he a good work, and that the trustees should see the lessee of section No 72, Mr A, Cockburn, who was the one who would really derive tho benefit from the alteration. Several mombcrs were of opinion that the Borough Council should deal with Mr Cockburn direct. iho Chairman said the trustees were landlords of Mr Cockburn and it was liis opinion they wore the parties to interview Mr Cockburn. Mr Graham suggested a committee should bo appointed to meet the Works Committee of the council. At the request of tho Chairman, Mr Hogg described tho state of the creek under the Star office. He said it was a constant source of danger to health.
Tho Chairman said if the. gatos were' hoisted, and a'- good flush of water sent down, the nuisance would disappear. The stream was not large enough or rapid enough to scour itself clean.
Mr Hogg jby permission) suggested that the nuisance could bo dono away with at a trifling cost if the culvert creek running through tho acre referred- to were properly covered with timber and earthed over. That would prevent any rubbish being thrown in, and also stop any smell trom arising. Mr Graham moved that a deputation consisting of Messrs Galloway and McEwon should go and inspect the stream in conjunction with the Committee of the Council and report. (Seconded by Mr Galloway and carried. TUB SALAVTION BARRACKS. The Secretary was instructed to
