Concert at Eketahuna.
A most successful concert was hold yesterday evening in aid of the school funds at Eketaliuna. There was a largo attendance, and a large and varied programme was submitted to an appreciative audience. Mr Men presided at the piano, and played all Ilia accompaniments in a most tasteful manner.
'ibis concert should bring in a good surplus to the School Committee as there was no expense; Mr Parsons giving his hall and piano free of charge. The following ladies aid gentlemen took part: —Mr Alex. Anderson, J. P., (in the chair), Misses Morriss, and E, Dowsett; Messrs Rubick, Ponney, D'Arcy, and Brandon, each contributing a song, and being deservedly encored; Messrs T. Biyliss, Williams, Cummins, and Copping, recitations; Mr Chas. Goddard (a gentleman of over, sixty summers) treated the audience to a jig, which was executed in first-class style. Mr C. Higgins, of Greytown, also sang, and was encored. The entertainment concluded with a farce entitled " The Insuranco Man," by Messrs -Tompkins, Eelcab, and .Snooks. It was certainly the hit of the evening, being entirely local, and containing some first-ulass locals, some of tbe leading lights of the town being touched up in a friendly manner. Mr Anderson announced at the close that'any friends who felt so disposed might enjoy a few hours dancing. The floor was soon cleared, no time being lost in taking advantage of this offer.
Probably not one m a thousand radian the fact that,' next to England, lltilj Holland is the greatojt' colonial power in the world, Tho Dutch colonies liay.' an areu ot nearly 800,000 squaro wiles, (vhich includes some of the finest colunjai possessions.'
