Auckland Items. Auckland, August 9. There are in the Waikato district this season 20,000 more sheep than there were last year, Miss Newcombe, of the Baptist Indian Zenana mission, lias returned to Auckland, and has received a public welcome from the members of the Baptist congregation. At a meeting of the Burns' Club a suggestion was made that a monument be erected to the memory of the late Mr Justice Gillies, who had boon a president of that Society. A parcel of gold from the Tarawera claim, at the new Kaotuna goldfields, Coromandel, is to bo sent to the Dunedin Exhibition.
Whilst a lumper named Edward Moore was assisting to discharge the cargo from the Ringaroona at the Queen-street wharf to-day, a large block of bluestone fell, owing to a hook giving way, and broke in two. One of the pieces struck Moore, and smashed his hip. He was removed to the hospital. •
