Larceny. Wellington, Friday, William Wilson, o half-caste was charged at the R.M. Court, with the larceny of a promissory noto for Ll5O, also with obtaining goods by false
pretences. He was committed for trial on both charges to the next sitting of the District Court at Wanganui.
TYPHOID FATALITY. Wellington, Friday, Captain Page, of the Fire Brigade, died of typhoid last night. ■ UK TYPHOIP in WELLINGTON. Sanitary MeasuresWellington, Friday, Several householders are to be proceeded against for having nuisances on their premises. The Council's Inspector who has been making a minute investigation, of places where typhoid was reported to exist finds the state of those houses very clean, and lie ouly came across two cases of fever. As far as can be ascertained there is nothing approaching an epidemic, but in nearly every case those attacked have been men well known, and consequently great publicity is 'given to their illness. Another remarkable thing is that in nearly every case tho sufferer is of the male sex. One suggestion is that the now practice of exposing tubbish bins on tho footpaths is responsible for the outbreak, while some peoplo think tho fumes from the destructor chimney have something to do with it.
Auckland Items. Auckland, August 8, The Knights of Labour Lave adopted a motion congratulating Sir Georgo Grey on tho passing of bis single vote amendment in the Representation Bill. A motion in favor of Sir John Hall's Female Franchise Bill was also agreed to. A number of working men in this city having worked for some time without receiving their wages, the Knights of labor learned this with regret, and expressed an opinion that the Workmen's Lien Bill should bo passed in order to protect working men. The steamer To Anau, which sailed' yesteeday for Sydney, took 2000 sacks of chaff, 800 sacks of potatoes, 75 sacks of oats, and 780 ! sacks ■ofrniu'siG. Au important sale of Queen-street property was held by D.F. Evans & Co, when the business premises of E. Waters were offered, comprising a largo doublo-fronted shop, kitchen, bakehouse and offices upstairs, and an allotment of 22ft frontage, on which the premises stand. The bidding was brisk in £IOO offers, and at length the property was purchased by Mr McDerinot for £-1850. This is equivalent to a price of £6500, as there is a' mortgage of £I2OO upon the property,
The creditors of J. C. Firth resolved to-day to allow the debtor to retain his household furniture and effects to tho value of £COO, and office furniture to the value of £M. with an aggravated assault on another convict named Fowler, on June 19th, was brought before the Magistrate's Court at Lyttelton to-day and committed for trial, Tho evidence showed that there had been a quarrel on Bipa Island during the day. When returning to the gaol Shine, on removing his heavy hoots weighing 21b 12oz, had inflicted fearful wounds on the face and head of Fowler.

The Committee of the Eugby Union held a long meeting this 1 evening, when the four members of the Maori team charged with shady
practice in Brisbane were in attendance, and also Mr Scott, • the manager.- The meeting adjourned without coming to ut decision.
There is at present a dispute' between the Harbour Board and the City Council, the latter body refusing to take over the streets in the Board's reserves until they are metalled and put in order, although they take the rates of any premises erected.

The Magistrates remanded the case till Saturday, with a view of examining Scarlett's premises.
