Concealment of Birth Dunedin, August 5. An inquest was held to-day on the body of a child of Margaret Edwards, a singlo woman, The child was born on Saturday in a loardinghonso, but the birth was concealed by tlio girl, Tlie lodginghousekeepor had her suspicions, and detained the girl as she was going out with a bucket, when the child was found in n room. The medical eviednce was to the efiect that the child had apparently breathed after being born, Tlio girl said the child had fallen on the floor, bill there were no bruises. It was quite, possible, according to the Doctor, that the mother was deceived, and believed the child was dead, Tim girl Edwards is from Ohristcliurch, and was last in the service of Mr Brown, a bank clerk, who has gone to Melbourne. Tlio inquest has been adjourned for a fortnight to allow of the mother giving evidence. The Maori Match Scandal-
DuKeDiN, Tuesday. The Rugby Union intend to take action in reference to the scandal in connection with the Maoris match m Brisbane.

An Amusing CaseOiiuisxciiuiiou, August 5, Eden George, photographer, a candidate at the recent election for Christchurch North, brought an action for £2OO damages at the Supreme Court to-day against Meere, another photographer, for issuing a cartoon lepresenting John Ollivier as a dignity, and Eden George, in dissolute appearance, as" It." The defendant had obtained a negative of Goorgo's photo from a former employee of the plaintiff. The ease created much amusement, which Judge Denniston shared, having previously seen tlio skit. Tlio result was judgment for the defendant without costs, the Judge remarking that the cartoon was inoffensive. The defendant was ordered to return the negative and not print any more oopies,
