Wellington, Monday, Mr Jollieoo appears with a number ohvitnessess before the Governor this afternoon in support of the application on Choinis' behalf, A Contradiction. (To the Editor). Sir.—ln your issue of tho Ist iusfc. a letter appears signed "A Visitor," purporting to bo nn account of tho Eketahuna Debating Society's last meeting. In Eketahuna and tho district the fact that' the Society is ono of tho best social institutions wo have is too well known for such a malicious fabrication to excito anything but contempt for tho writer, butsonioofyour readers may bo led to suppose (from tho utter falsehoods and overdrawn fads) contained in " A Visitor's" letter, that a Society which lias always borno a good name is at a low obb and fast dying out, This, however, sir, is not the caso. The facts areas follows: A certain member ot the Society lias, on varioua occasions, mado himself extremely obnoxious by his petty display of temper, his denso stupidity, and his crass ignorance. He Ims been remonstrated with, coaxed like a child, finally, openly rebuked. This, it appears has been too his vindictive spirit, and he has taken tha opportunity to givo us a slab in th dark under tho nom-de-plume of "A Visitor." This mean-spirited individual may deny that tho production is his, aud thus throw tho odium on a bona fide visitor, thorc being two and two only present at the meeting in question. It would be anything but gentlemanly ou the part of any pecson to thus harshly and unfairly criticise our proceedings after taking advantage of the privilege to • attend. I will not encroach on your valuable space by going through" A Visitor's" letter piecemeal. I will simply say that the only coned statement in tho whole half column is that the Secretary was not present at the opening, but as that gentleman was miauidably detained, and sent a proper apology, I certainly do not seo what there is in that to cavil at, I am etc., Art. CoppiM, Prmident E.D.Sy,
