Mr Wallace, General Manager of the Wellington-Manawatu Railway Company, waited on the Wirokino Road Board on Saturday'to obtain their a assistance to a scheme the Company proposed to raise money to form a road-line from Shannon towards Bketahuna, The Company desirei) to continue the road from the ppjnt fixed, to which tlio present loan could be spent, to the boundary of the Company's land adjoining the forest jqsQrycf, At this'point the road wouid be iii'tjie" valley of the Tokomafu, which was some seven miles bug by three broad, and with the hills gave the Company spme 21,000 acres, which would be opened up by this road, It wag proposed not only tp take tljq road tq the boundary, but to run It down the valloy, which was levd, and was covered with bush, comprising mostly red piue, tawa, and a few totaras, and "red birch on !!]? road across to Eketalmna was remarkably good and easy, as for the first three miles from Shannon it was practically level, the next three miles were the worst, asm that distance they rose over the highest point they had to, which was, however, only 900 feat high, and the road would be in no placo steeper than 1 in 15, and out of the Tokomaru Valley to Eketalmna, the road was comparatively level The whole distanco from the 900 ft point was down hill to tho Wairarapa. Proposed by Mr Davies seconded by Mr Andrews, Tlitt.the Board agrees to assist the Railway Company in its endeavors to open the road line from Shannon to Eketalmna, and to do all things necessary to obtain a special loan under the Local Bodies Loan Act for tho purpose-Carried unanimously.
