Auckland, August 1. Nothing has yet been done toward fitting up the Otorobanga caves with the electric light, It is stated by persons conversant with the caves that the installation of the light isa necessity, as the smoke from the torches at present used by the native guides will soon obliterate or deface the beauty of the stalactites which adorn tho roof of the galleries and the chambers.
It is proposed to commence the systematic cultivation of sugar beet m the Waikato district, and public meetings are to be held to consider the subject.
