The report of the Directors of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company states that the net profit, after providing for depreciation, amounts to L4,G29, which is recommended to be appropriated in the payment of a dividend of 9 per cent per annum, and Ji1,716 to be returned to shippers of a per cent primage, and LIBG7 bonus of 5 per cent to shareholders, being the proportion of profit realised by the Company's purchases, L 1.200, leaving 1/834 to bo carried forward, There were frozen at the Company's works for the year 1,771,504 sheep and lambs, and 8458 quarters of beef, more than half being at Oamaru,
Auckland ItemsAuckland, July 25. A claim by the Native chief Paul, of Orakei, against the Minister for Public Works for £5220, as compensation for land taken for the defence purposes was opened before the Compensation Court to-day. Mr flesketh appeared for the claimant and Mr Button for the respondent. Mr Hesketh haying opened the case, Mr Button said the question of title would not be raised, and the only question to decide was tho amount to be awarded.. The Court then adjourned until to-morrow. The condition of tho labour market in this district has improved of late, and there is no difficulty in getting work in the country for steady and industrious men.
The Waikato County Council intend to consider the question of urging alterations in the rate of railway freights and relief from differential rating.
Another difficulty has cropped up in regard to the City Club Hotel license. The plans for the new hotel poovide for building over a right-of-way which is said to have been dedicated for public use, and it is reported that this matter will have to be considered,
A consignment of 24 tons of sulphur from the Poverty Bay district is lying near the wharf.
