On the Ist of June the American warship Nipsic, under convsy of the Alert, left Pago Pagq for San Francisco, via Honolulu, The ships were accompanied by the English .man-of-war Eapid. On the way the weather ps unfavourable, and coal also foil short, and the vessels called at Faunings Island, 400 miles south of Honolulu, where the Nipsic was anchored, whilst the Alert went on to Honolulu to get coal.
