Unnox, an aeronaut, who ascended iu a balloon with the intention of descending by means of a parachute, has been lcillod at Manchester. The balloon collapsed, and he fell from a great height. "Jack the Ripper" recently informed the'police that lie would begin operations again in July, and the recent murder in Whitecliapel is consequently attributed to him. The woman was about 40 years of age, and has not been identified. Her clothes round the abdomen were gashed, but the body was intact. Her throat was cut. The murderer had evidently been disturbed at his ghastly work and fled. A constable passed tli3 spot five minutes previously. Two hundred police now form a cordon round the district. Lord Harris, in the courso of a speech in the House of Lords, averred that if Mr Parnell lent his assistanco to the detection of criminals, lie would lose'liis influence-at once.

In connection with the allegation of Dr Germont and M.
