AUSTRALIAN. Melbourne, July 18. A dense fog was experienced in the city yesterday, and all railway and street tralße is suspended. Numerous sasualitios are reported, but none ol a serious character.
A nugget containing 401 ounces of puro gold has been discovered by a poor man working in a mine in Tarnagulla township, situated about 135 miles north-west of Melbourne, The body of a woman named Annie Thornton has been discovered in a cottage in this city, aud there is but little doubt that a foul murder has been committed. From the-con-dition of tho corpse it is apparent that tho murder took place quite a week ago, The polico are making active enquiries, but as yet have no clue to the perpetrators. Thursday Island, July 18. The boat containing tho mate and five of the crew of tho German barque Kenilworth, wrecked at Fly River, New Guinea, and which was reported missing, has arrived safely.
