Supreme CourtWellington, July 2, Robert Taylor, for the larceny of L1412s from the dwelling of E, 0, Neville was sentoncod to 18 months imprisonment, James Barlow cbarqed with the larceny as a bailee of a mare and filly, the property of William Nicholl was acquitted.
John Dalton alias Shortall, alias McGregor.alias Hickey,was arraigned on an indictment charging him with the larceny of the sum of Lll, the property of "William Marquet, from the Rainbow Hotel, Kaiwarra, on the 6th June, and found guilty; Sentence deferred; The New Charitable Aid Bill. Christchuch, July 2, At Selwyn County Council meeting to-day a dicussion took place on the new Charitable Aid Bill. Mr S. Westenra moved "That in tho opinion of this Council tho proposal to place the several institutions in North Canterbury district undor tho control of ono is unsatisfactory, and that steps be taken to endeavour to have [.representation made on the same basis as contained in the existing Act."—Carried. A discussion took place at a meeting of the Auckland Presbytery on the motion that the oall of the Devonport Presbyterian congregation to the Eev J. Hill, of Lyttelton, be sustained. It was pointed out that Eev J, Hill was receiving £3OO a year in Lyttelton, and he was now offered £IOO a year without a manse, and an amendment was moved suggesting to tho congregation that in making it call they should increase the stipend to £2OO. Eventually six -voted in favor of the original motion and three against it. The call is to bo forwarded to the Chriatchurch presbytery,
