(From Our Own Correspondent). The Minister of Lands, the Hon. G. P, Richardson, visited here on Saturday, A deputation of village settlers were introduced to. him by Mr Alex, Reese, Tliey urged upon the Minister the necessity they were under of having good roads to their settlement, and pointed out where a line could bo laid off that would benefit other settlers ol the district besides the villagers. Mr Richardson promised to give .the matter early consideration. In reference to the overflow of the Moungarama the settlers asked that the Government should Undertake such works as would prevent the stream overflowing, The cost was estimated at about L2OO to LBOO, Mr Richardson having had considerable experience of' New Zealand rivers was averse to the Govornmeut undertaking the work of interfering with the natural course of this stream as there was no knowing where the expense would end, Sufficient pressure was brought to bear by the deputation as to induce him to promise to oommunicato with the Chairman of the County Councilon the matter, but he, thought the. settlers interested would .have -to, carry out the work with some assistance torn Government, Mr Richardson also promised Ll5O towards making roads to the village settlement. Several minor matters were' discussed: whioli the astute Minister' Bkilfully fenced. In reference to the question the Council is agitating ;That interest on loans raised' under the ''Loansto Local Bodies Actj" be paid out of deferred payment thirds. Mr Richardson said .the question would, be djsoussed with the -members, representing thfl Busli districts.
