President Harrison accepts the Queen's message of sympathy upon the Johnstown, catastrophe as an expression of a generous oliarnotor on the part of herself, and as indicative of the goodwill of England towards the United States. x The wife of a leading citizen of Johnstown- was found alive among the debris., ; A ( coffin was found containing a corpse partly burned, The workmen have'begun operations on" the Nicaragua Canal, at the Grey town end. A shock of earthquake was experienced in New York, but no damage was done.
Alexander Sullivau denounced Dr Oronin as a personal enemy and perjurer, and had him expelled from the Brotherhood; He is a British and not an American citizen.
Major LeCaronhas assured Mr Luke Dillon that Sullivan is the murderer of Dr Cromn. The evidence is thickening against Sullivan.
It is understood that President Harrison disapproves of. portions of theSamoan agreemeut,. ■ The latest return of the loss of life by the Johnstown catastrophe is 37,000. This is based on the fact that 13,000 survivors have registered their names, while the estimated population of the district affected (in Counomaugh Valley) is 50,000. It is feared that all the rest have lost their lives,
