Tho icaEon urged by Mr Wallace for . taking up this road as a county l'oftd was a fact that Should be continued as aline connecting the West Coast with road lines in tho Forty Mile . Bush on to Eketahuna at a very trifling expense, Mr Wallace pointed out that tbo highest point to be overcomo was six miles from Shannon f). and of this distance three miles was a level line, of which two mile 3 had been formed, and tenders were being called for another mile. The balance of the line to the saddle had been laid off and was of an easy grade of 1 ' in 16, and presenting no difficulty in formation, Mr Wallace pledged the Company to onhance the value of its land in the Tokomaru Valley, if the ■Council would adopt the proposed ' road as a main line, and allow a jjtoecial rate on the area of 21,000 Weres to cover the interest and redemption of a loan of £2OOO for making the. road. The Chairman • expressed his approval of the Company's suggestion, and said he would promote |and further it as far as he could, a3 he considered it most important for the interests of his district and for the whole of the West (bast to have such easy and convenient communication with such extensive and valuable country as the Forty Wile Bush. Several of the councillors concurred in the Chairman's remarks, and all considered that the road should be made without delay. After full discussion, the Chairman explained the difficulty that might arise in the ovent of the line not being carried beyond the boundaries of the county, and suggested that as the machinery of the Wirokino Road Board was complete for the purpose, it would be better that the Company should apply to it, and proposeda resolution accordingly, which was carried.—Times.
