The annual meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club was held this afternoon, Mr W. H. Wynn Williams presiding. The treasurer, Mr G. 6. Stead, in bis report, said that the' multiplication ot minor race meetings consequent on the abuse of the fcotaUsator, has fostered idling and gambling to an extent which had done immense injury fo tho industry and morality of the Colony, It.is earnestly to be hoped that tba restrictions suggested by the Colonial Secretary in issuing permits for the use of the totalisator would stop the useless and pernicious meetings.' The report was adopted. The meeting unanimously passed a resolution expressing the opinion that if the restrictions proposed were rigidly enforced they would I=B3ea the evfls'opiiiplsined of. !j!he rules prepared by .the Napier Conference were approved..
