A meeting of the Road Board was ■ held on May 2nd,- Present: Messrs Kebbell, (Chairman), Cros?, Benton, J. Smith, and Eli Smith, The minutes of the previous meeting were . read and confirmed, Mr Geo. Benton. reported that there was some timber ■•':".' short in timber ordered for RoadBoard offico at present in hand, The Clerk was instructed to give an order for same. Mr Benton, as Treasurer of the Alfredton-Mangaoue library, applied to have the library removed to tho Board's office. The Chairman said lie thought it would be as well to make the application again when,the office was finished. Inward corres-;Vi pondence was read as follows:. Bank (J of New Zealand acknowledging cheque'Jfi for general account of £79 18s Od, transfer from special loan account, Same, having sent cheque book and charging £1 5s for same. Same, acknowledging cheque, £2 6V lOd and stating that letter sent was deficient in postage. Colonial Setretary stating members were gazetted. Treasury stating first years interest on Tawataia Eoad loan would be £3O 126 4d. ■ County Clerk stating cost of rough estimate of roads would be about £lO. The Chairman Btated that in accordance with the wishes of the ratepayers he would move that the estimate be procured and charged to the wards pro rata. Carried. Mrs E. Smith acknowledging cheque for £5 on account of order on O. $, O, Smith, The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr. Merchant asking whether the plans for Ihuraua Valley road were certified. The- Clerk stated that it wa i necessary to appoint a Presiding officer and Returning Officer for proposed Ihuratia Valloy road loan. It was resolved that the Clerk be ap- ■jL pointed to said duties, Mr Murdock'* waited on tho Board and stated that '' the Committee appointed by the ratepayers at the annual meeting had deputed him to convey the result of the interview with Mr Phillips, * ' "Mi-Phillips offers to give the land f from where the old road crosses the \ _ TeHoe creek to the new bridge, and from thence to the gate at Rocky Creok,and also to give an outlet to Mr Freer, for L 94, on the understanding that he is to fence the deviation and outlet to Freef's on both sides of the road." Mr H, Benton gave notice he would move at next meeting that Mr Phillips'offer be accepted, and that ho be paid L 5 on account, 142 in'six months, and the balance in 12 months.
