A Yankee Man o' War.
Auckund, May 27, Further particulars with respect to the Nipsio's breakdown when on her seoond voyage to Auckland states that the ship had to be delayed over a day whilst the rudder to repaired and she then made another start. In spite of its being calm the Nipsic rolled vary heavily, due in part no doubt to the loss of her keel,- The £ engineers did not like this. She $ steered wildly, and the steering-gear . not proving reliable. These in addition to the remonstrances ■ of the engineer, who evidently considered that the vessel was not in a fit slate to make the voyage to Auckland, had somo effect with Captain Mullen, and he held a consultation with the'captain of the Alert, and it was resolved to turn back. A correspondent at Apia writing with respect to the matter, says Admiral Kimberley was not entirely satisfied with the return of the Nipsic, and from all accounts he did not consider it altogether justifiable. I understand that he obtained information from somo of the lieutenants of the Nipsic, and this, Captain Mullen objected to, and, after reporting to the Admiral, he asked to be relieved. To this Admiral Kimberley consented, and appointed Lieutenant Lyon, of the U.S.S Trenton to the commander of the Nipsio, and sent her out the sama afternoon, under the convey of the Alert, She has orders to proceed to Pago Pago Har'there to land her guns and take in coal. The Alert is to escort gUie Nipsic to Auckland. The two 'Wjssols were to be ready to leave /Pago Pago for Auokland on the 23rd '/JRistanfc. Captain Mullen leaves for for the United States by the E.M.S. Zealandia, which is due at Tuituila on Saturday next, tho 25th inst.
