George's acobmmodatiori 'house, before: the Coroner, Mr Frederick ■ J von Eeden J.P, on Tuesday, May 7. Henry Cudby, labourer, sworn, said; I recognise the body as William i Harris'. Saw him last alive about ' ten a.m, the 6th day of :May, He was working. Never saw him again. ' . till we took him from under the tree.:. I had been falling the tree that killed. ■■ him, I oalled out to him to get but r of the way and thought he'had done . eo. Knew the tree had hit him by John Callan telling me! When! / went to Harris 1 found he was bleeding at the- head. He never " spoke. He was working on-one tree, : I - was working on another.^ ; . My tree went a different way to what I; thought it would go. He was'about half a ohain away from me. The skull is' broken 'jib\ '■ pieces, ' .: ■•' '.; The Jury returned a verdict that William Harris was accidentally killed by a tree falling on him. )0- ■ The'• following were the jury!' Y Messrs L, Macquarie, (foreman), S. M. George, W. Good, W, Murdock, C. Trap, and W. Cross, It is not known if the deceased . had any relatives in the colony. A letter was found on him headed Soutbport, written as if from bis brother-in-law. The envelope is missing, '•-.'. :
SCHOOL COMMITTEE, Monthly meeting of the School Committee. Present: Messrs Anderson (Chairman), Bredrup, Bright, Selby, Parsons, Beilsen, and Syversen.
