Mr Beard appeared for defendant, and quoted seotion 88 of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, showing that the plaintiff is not entitled to recover! The rate--1 payers meeting was advertised for ; U a.m. same day, only two ratepayers were present, besides members of the Board. The accounts of ; the Board for the past year were laid before tho meeting. At the meeting of the Board there were present —Messrs A. Anderson, W. B. Matheson, and E. Morris. Mr A. Anderson was eleoted chairman for the ensuing year. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence inwards, —From Chief Surveyor with explanations re acorued thirds on some sostions; from F. Heckler and W. McGrnddv, objecting to gates being erected, on road adjoining their sections ; from County Engineer re metalling on Alfredton fload; from Chairman of Board of Reviewers Property Tax Valuation, asking for use of office to hold meeting of the Board; from J. Bredrup, proprietor of Eketahuna and' Fahiatua Daily Mail, asking for Board's advertising; from Colonial Treasurer, approving of loans proposed by the Board; from D. McLachlan," with plans and specifications for bridges on the Mangaone Valley Road; from S. Bridge, declining to pay cost of closing road line adjoining his section; from W. T, Lowes, asking fora bridge over the Tawataia stream; from S. Chisholm, asking for £5 for extra work on contract 6; from Commissioner of Crown Lands requesting Board to arrange with Mr Lowes re the expenditure of thirds accrued to hie section. Prom Mr R. Bryant, asking oiie month's extension of time on Makakahi bridge contract, Prom J. King, with report on same. Resolved that Mr Bryant's applica-' tion be granted. That ;bush be felled on the following linos: Smith's i line, Mangaramaraina line, Makakahi i road north, Anders Anderson's line, i Resolved: That tenders be called for i bridges on the Mangaone Valley road. That, Mr Bredrup's application .be considered at the next meeting of tho Board. That the Clerk prepare a list of defaulting ratepayers to lay before the next meeting of the Board. ■ Mr F. Dowsett attended with, a ' petition signed by 18 ratepayers of 1 Newman, praying that ,ten chains .of i formation might be' done of the line leading. to the school site.
