Masterton Borough Council.

A special meeting of 'the Council was held last night to" consider the repow of tho Building Surveyor, Mr Jus. Russell, upon the properties in' number one district which are affected by the operation of the by-law made by the Council ten years ago, to be brought into effect on the 81st of this month; Unfortunately, for', the disonsßibn of so important a subject, only six Councillors put in an appearanco, viz., The Mayor and Ore Perry (1 \ Capper, Chamberlain, Dixon, anM*. Bessey. . Tho list submitted by the Surveyor was read over when the names of Messrs A,W. Eeuall and W.Perry appearing thereon,, the Mayor pointed out no Councillor interested could vote on or discuss the question. '■■ This reduced power fomyand in tho face'.of the subject being of bucli grave importance it was resolved that the question be deferred until the next'brainary; meet- ' ing of- the Council, on tbe motion ; of Cr Gapper, seconded by Cr Hessey. The. Mayor said it seemed a great pity after the trouble had been taken / to convene a .special meeting, so should have attended.
