Drowned. Dunedin, May 1, ] A fisherman named Nicholas was drowned in the Lower Harbour. It appears that thice boats were being towed up by a steamer, when the one Nicholas was in broke adrift, Tho other boats cast off and went to the tescue, hut Nicholas was not seen again. A stiong south-west gale was blowing, and nothing could be done 116 rejover the body,
Lively ScenesInveroarsiil, May 1. A livoly scene occurred at a meeting of the cieditors of W. T. Perkins, a farmer, ivho has got into difficulties through connection with the Flour Milling and Grain Agenoy Company. The solicitor for the National Bank, which is tho principal creditor, remarked that he could not understand the statement filed by the debtor, who remarked that he did not wonder at chat, as his (the solicitor's) head was too big, to which the counsel retorted that.but for' the bankrupt's position' lie would be tempted, to make his head a little bigger. Mr Perkins replied .that he was quite ready for him—he had taken off his coat to many a better man, At a later stage the debtor apologised to the counsel and the meeting for his remarks,.;;.:
