Wairarapa and East Coast Fastoral and Agricultural Society*

The annual general meeting of the above i was held at tbo Carterton Library on Saturday last. Present —Mr A. Mathewß, president, Mr , W. ft Buchanan, vice-president, and about 30 others. The minutes of tho last annual meeting, also the minutes of the special meeting, were - read and confirmed,, the Chairman read the report and. balanco-sbeet for the past year, which states that 28 members have joined the Society during the year, Liabilities of the Society; Bank overdraft, £loll9s sd; mortgage on ground, £282 15b; debentures, £2O; total, £49414s 6d,;i against that, valuo of the- ShpwW grounds, L 60.0; outstanding sub-' acriptions L 47, and tools, Ll2; total, L 659. The report and balanca-shw* . as read were adopted, great credit <iR attributed to the secretary, Mr E. W. " Dorset, for the manner in which he had conducted the business of tire Society since he has held the office, The Chairman explained that although by the balance-sheet the Bank overdraft was shown to boLI9I I4ssd, the actual overdraft was only L 162. Mr Buchanan in seconding the adoption of the. report, stated that the last Show was the best ever held in the Wairarapa, and he referred to the observations he made in respect to the quality of the stock in America, and staled that the Americans were in noway behind us in the quality of their stock, by which it behoved stock owners in New Zealand to have a diligent eye to the necessity of con-, stautly improving their studs of sheep and cattle. He highly congratulated the Secretary on his enterprise in securing so many new members during the year, Mr Stuckey drew the attention of the members to the amount for overdne subscriptions; the Chairman replied to the satisfaction of Mr Stuckey. Tho election of officejt, then proceeded, Mr SluckJk proposed that Mr A. Mathews be re-elected president, and spoke ver/ highly as to the manner in which ho had conducted the offico as President in the past year. The motion was carrried. The President thanked the members for the honor conferred on him, Mr Buchanan proposed Mr N. Graco as Vice-President, Seconded by Mr J. Rayner and carried. Mr VV. Booth was re-elected- auditor. The ballot was then takeu for the election of committeemen,' Messrs Seed and Wolters actingaß scrutineers, when the following gentlemen were elected:—Messrs C. Pharazyn, W, ft Williams, F. Monckton, W. C. Buchanan, A, McKenrie, J. Donald and J, Drummond. Besolved that another meeting be held in a month's time to discuss the question ofalternateßhoTO being held between Mastertbn and Carterton, and tho meeting adjourned.
