"Maritana at Greytown."

■ (to the editor.) Sin,—ln to-day's issue of the Wairarapa Star or rather as it appears here the' South Wairarapa Advocate, there is a report on "Maritana at' Greytown." This report was written by the Greytown reporter to run down (with two or thre exceptions) most of the performers. . The orchestra is stated as having drowned tbe voices, Don Jose and others as riot being satisfactory, and the part of tho King of Spain being taken by a tenor instead of a bass does not stem to have suited this musioal reporter. The general public here was perfectly satisfied with tho performance as a whole, the only objectionable part being the loud talking and sarcastic remarks of the Advocate reporter, who sat in a very conspicuous part of the Hall, His remarks could be heard by most of the audience in the front seats, and some remarked that it ,was a pity that he was not turned out of the Hall. Some short time ago concerts were held at Maryborough and Greytown, in wliich the musical reporter assisted. In due course the reports appeared in the Advocate, and every performer was greatly praised, This week Maritana was performedhero, and the same reporter finds nothing but a chapter of faults, Most people with-a knowledge of music would, I think, "prefer the opera Maritan'i to a _ Greytown Amateur Concert, and a good report for one and a bad one for the other seems highly ridionlous,—l am, &0., Nagoleton.
