At the Cape recently several English divers'descended totho bottom of Saldanha Bay for the purpose of recovering sonio hidden treasure which was associated with an interesting historical event In 1770 when England was at war with tho Dutch, andjust prior to tho capture of the colony, three Dutch merchant vessels loaded with tin and coppor were scuttled m Saldanha'tßav.in order to escape capture by tho English ships of war. The efforts of tho divers in seeking lor tho cargoes after the lapse of at least £IOOO worth of tin and copper having been recovered. A large quautity of chinaware, in a good state of preservation, was also brought to the surface, and those relics were eagerly sought after. Captain Gibson, who landed at Plymonthon Sunday from the Roslin Dastle, brought home a number of an|J|ue cups and saucers which woro recovand which, by somo means of identification, are said to belong to tho Kip Middlesburgh-ono of tho scuttled Vowels, Beyond being thinly cnatod with tin the articles are quite perfect, Tho recovery of tho tin find oopper aroused tho jealousy of the Cape Government, and the divers have now to pay a royalty on tho hiddon troasuro they have suocedod in recovering.
