CRICKET.
Carterton v- StarsThe final championship Mutch was played between the above teams on the Park Oval yesterday, and after a very close contest the Star captain elected to give the match to his opponents, The Carterton men went in first and put together 67, only batting ten men, Nicholson, 25, was top scorer, got by hard batting, Mercer 'contributing 14 by nice cricket, The Star team responded with 51, A. Minifle 14, and O'Connor 12, being the highest. In the second innings Carterton ran the score to 77, Leeks and Darrock making 20 each, Mercer 16, and King 10. In the second innings the Stare had eleven wickets down for 63, A. Richards making 26, and \V. Welch 16. Having at the call of ..timn three wicketa to fall and 31 runs to get, the Star captain decided to resign tho match rather than continue the following Saturday, and the Carterton team are therefore the champions for the season.
