JEALOUSY AND MURDER. Gj.Bß.orne, April 22, News has just reached hern of a horrible murder on tho Mania Peninsula, A man named Robert Uollan bus been murdered by a hull'-caste named McQuarrie. Gollan'a remains were found amongst tho ruins of his wharf, which bad been ■ destroyed at Table Cape. On the night of the murder McQuarrie left his home, and his young brother-in-law being frightened of being left at home in the dark, followed a short distance behind. McQuarrie was heard to tire three shots., The appearance of tlin ground ut Gollan'a whure showed that a bleeding body had been dragged into tho wliare, which was then burnt.
The' motive assigned is jealousy. MtQuanie hadoflßiiexpressed himself in jealous terms of Gollan on aceouut of a Maori woman with whom lie was living, and of whom McQuarrie was deeply enamoured. The other day he offered a Maori £lO if he would bring the woman to him. 'The, police are at Mania and have arrested McQiiarrie, who will bo taken to Wuiroa for trial. Napier, April 22. The Herald's Wuiraa correspondent wires that a shepherd's house at Mahia on the run of Mr 6, Orrannd, has been discovered' burned to the ground, with the remains of a man, supposed to be Gollan, a shepherd to Ormoud, in the debris, As suspicious circumstances were reported, Mr Large, J.P., who has gone up to hold an inquest, is accompanied by Detective .Grace and Dr Wilkinson,
